The Emergency Department is a 24/7 facility where patients can be seen in a safe environment and medical treatment provided. Patients are assessed on their condition and the urgency of treatment required, generally by a triage nurse, who will arrange appropriate tests to determine the cause and severity of illness, with the aim of making an initial diagnosis as quickly as possible.
